Happy Wednesday

I’m sick. I’m excited about Wall to Wall Comedy tomorrow. It’s sold out!

We’ve got Peter Kelamis as a late replacement for Wes Barker. Not too shabby.

Friends are good

One of the coolest things about comedy is getting to spend time with friends. This weekend was great for that!

I got to open up for Simon King. Was with him up in Nanaimo and Victoria. He’s special, here’s his special:

Hanging in Victoria was fun to see old friend Shane Priestley (so funny). He makes me giggle like a schoolgirl. Patrick Boyle was also there. A dear friend, a supremely gifted talent and a wise man. He’s a gift.

The next day was spent with my mom (no link) and Drew Farrance (and Sab). Drew’s so funny it’s dumb. And also is a small business owner.

An email I sent to a new comic

Okay man, here's some shit:

Richard Pryor

Nothing better when it comes to being totally yourself on stage. Seriously, he's amazing. He prowls the stage and kills kills kills. You can see where Chris Rock got that swagger from. What we should all aspire to be. Also: his white voice is the gold standard.

Louis CK

Oh man! Amazing. Relatable and god damn funny. It doesn't sound like he's telling jokes but he's got tonnes! Also, you've probably heard the first premise at all the open mics but nobody will ever make it as funny as Louis.

Eddie Murphy

Pre-special. His first appearance on Carson. There was no turning back.

Rodney Dangerfield

The man. The myth. The legend. If you can watch/listen to Rodney and not laugh, you don't deserve to be in comedy. His album No Respect you should find on Apple Music or whatever. 200 jokes in less than an hour. The model for self-hating comedy. This clip is from him on Carson and it's amazing.

Dave Attell

The best pound for pound joke writer in the business. My favourite working comic. This special is a gift to all mankind.

Bernie Mac and Steve Harvey

On the Original Kings of Comedy, these two are why it's worth watching repeatedly. When Steve does his "old school music" bit he murders the crowd. It's proof that stand up is about entertainment. And Bernie, Jesus.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPElPHzRtfA (seriously, this gives me stupid goosebumps. When he kicks the stool, fuck I love it)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JkPx0gk6LE (talk about owning a crowd - the ultimate pump up. The jokes aren't great but it's perfect)

Triple dip

My dad came along to three shows Tuesday. It's great! I love my pops (we should all love our pops).

He got to hear all the pee pee poo poo jokes and only cringed at them all!

Yuk Yuk's Vancouver

I'm pretty excited to be on all 7 shows at Yuk Yuk's Vancouver this week.

Tuesday is Top Talent Showcase night. I'll be doing ten minutes with some other very funny people. (Also I'm doing Full Pint comedy run by Colin Sharp, James Kennedy and Ryan Williams, as well as Komedy at the Kino).

Wednesday I am doing the ProAm night. Likely later in the show.

Thursday is my Yuk Off semi-final week. It's a very tough lineup and it's an honour to be on the show. Following that, I'm hosting the late night open mic at the club.

Friday and Saturday I'll be middling. My first middle at the club. Woo hoo.

Tonight’s the Night!

Where I start to take over Yuk Yuk’s Vancouver’s Thursday late night open mic while Lauren the manager is away back home. Soon to be three weeks! So much to learn (not really lol).

Food

Cooking's great. Like the best way to prepare food.

Chicken with a mushroom pan sauce, baby arugula salad and roasted potatoes. Pretty tasty dins.

I wish I had jokes about food that didn't include the words "I", "eat too much" and "I regret it".

Idols

It’s always great to see one of your idols and not be disappointed. Carl Turnbull (seriously my favourite Vancouver comedian and a dear friend - https://www.instagram.com/turnbullcomic) and I went down to Seattle to not only eat Paseo sandwiches but to also see Pablo Francisco.

He was great. So silly and fun and totally met expectations. Did a meet and greet after. He was nice to both of us. Gold.
